Resumo

The theme of this study is the geography of country schools located in rural settlement areas from the municipality of Apodi-RN. Its goal is to analyze geographically the schools located in the rural agrarian reform settlements from Apodi aiming to cover some topics, such as: the proposes of education in those schools and their effectiveness; the actions public authorities have been promoting to strengthen education in those spaces; the education modalities offered by the schools; and, finally, the spatial issue involving students and teachers in relation to the schools investigated. Therefore, we have used bibliographic, desk and field research as methodological procedures aiming to collect the primary and secondary information. From that, it has been possible to elaborate a diagnosis of socioeconomic and spatial profile of students, as well as identify the academic training of the teachers and their relation with the rural space where they teach. The results confirms the importance of the existence and permanence of Country Education in Settlements in view of the struggle of the country folk for the right of accessing to education in Apodi rural areas. In this sense, this work aims to show the relevance of the permanence of schools in the settlements for the social, cultural and economic lives of their inhabitants.
