The dairy industry generates solid waste, liquids and atmospheric emissions that can impact the environment. Regardless of the size and potential of pollution in the industry, environmental legislation dictates that all companies treat and dispose of their waste properly. The company here presented has an effluent treatment plant (ETE), designed to receive all net waste generated in the company's production sector. Some physico-chemical parameters are analyzed to determine the efficiency of the ETE and if the treated effluent follows the standards specified by Superintendência Estadual do Meio Ambiente - SEMACE, the responsible agency. The company also adopts the system of selective collection in order to properly manage and separate all the garbage produced, the recyclable materials are commercialized and the non-recyclable ones are destined to suitable sanitary landfills. During the study, a survey of these collectors was carried out, in order to identify which sectors are not following the proper separation procedures for this waste. The company complies with the solid and liquid waste treatment standards required by environmental agencies.
