Resumo

Tourism is an economic activity and a social practice that has gained expression in the context of Rio Grande do Norte, especially from the 1980s, when public tourism policies started to effectively support the capitalization of some spaces, in order to attract private investments that soon expanded, marking, as a consequence, its touristization process. To promote the diversification of attractions and improve the quality of the travelers' experience, investments in tourism infrastructure works are necessary, this is important to prepare and promote the RN as an increasingly attractive destination for Brazilians and foreigners. The present work seeks to propose a model to assess the quality of infrastructure in the municipalities with the greatest tourist potential in RN, the study defined, together with specialists in the tourism industry, the criteria and appropriate weights for selecting the characteristics to be evaluated in the municipalities. The ranking of the best performance assessment was determined based on the aggregation of the experts' preferences using the PROMETHÉE GDSS method. The survey provides a clear method for identifying among the cities with the greatest tourist potential in the state those that have the best and worst performance in terms of their infrastructure.
