Resumo

The Apodi-RN Plateau stands out in melon production for a lot of years, intensively. Fertilization is high and often the cumulative effect of nutrients in the soil is not considered, with emphasis on nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. With purpose of obtaining fertilizer responses in fields of melon and evaluate different sources of fertilizers for melon cultivars, this work aimed to evaluate two cultivars of melon response (Caribbean gold and Goldex) to levels and sources of nitrogen and phosphorus and sources of potassium, in an alkaline soil of the Apodi Plateau, cultivated with melon intensively. Four trials were conducted in a derivative Inceptisol limestone, two with N levels (0, 40, 80, 100 and 130 kg ha-1) and P2O5 (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1), one experiment of N and P2O5 levels for each cultivar evaluated, and others two experiments with N sources (urea, ammonium sulfate and potassium nitrate), P (MAP, simple superphosphate and triple superphosphate) and K (potassium chloride, potassium nitrate and potassium sulphate) with the same cultivars. The experimental design was a randomized block with four replications and the characteristics were: yield and average fruit weight, firmness and pulp thickness, longitudinal and transverse length, bark thickness, inner diameter of the fruit cavity, solids content soluble, pulp pH, titratable acidity and plant tissue analysis for evaluation of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S in the diagnostic leaf melon. The results indicated that the components of production and fruit quality of Yellow and Harper melons, and the N and P levels in the leaves are not affected by nitrogen levels within the range studied, in an area with production history melon in the Apodi Plateau; The phosphorus levels below 60 kg ha-1 applied to the soil respond better on the components of production of Harper melon, but not Yellow melon; The sources of N, P and K in the soil don t promote significant changes on production, quality and nutritional levels in Yellow and Harper melon plants; In areas cultivated with melon production history on the Apodi plateau, the nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer recommendations should take into account the residual effect of previous fertilizer, rated by soil analysis; The sources of N, P and K to be chosen for the management fertilization of Yellow and Harper melons should follow criteria of economic and operational, since they didn t influence the productivity of these melon
