Gestão da responsabilidade social em universidades: análise da percepção de diferentes sujeitos na comunidade acadêmica potiguar

Resumo

The concept of social responsibility is originated in corporate organizations which, concerned about decreased advance of socialism and state intervention proposals, seek reduced impacts of organizations on the social fabric. However, the impact is different according to the kind of activities developed. In this context, there are universities with the function of training professional staff to help improving a certain society living conditions. And their externalities are not so clear as in other organizations. Thus, we wonder what kind of actions they should develop in their management process. With this issue, this study aims at evaluating the perception of the Potiguar academic community on the main principles and themes of social responsibility, as well as understanding the organization maturity level on the theme. For this purpose, a qualitative and quantitative approach was used, and the data collect was performed by applying a questionnaire to 1,318 student, 118 technical-administrative staff, 104 professors and 29 managers of UFERSA, UFRN, UERN and UNP, and the conduction of semi-strutured interviews with 2 rectors, 15 pro-rectors, and 4 campus administrators. The research findings showed a long way to be run until Potiguar universities become socially responsible institutions, considering that the organizational governance data highlighted disagreement between managers and other academic community members, who had distinct perceptions on university practices. Regarding human rights, it was found that universities meet basic responsibility. However, there are two points of concern: freedom of speech in the academic sphere and equal opportunities for all individuals; concerning the working practices, they showed that universities do not make many efforts to eliminate from the workplace psychosocial risks causing stress and diseases; concerning the fair operating practices, the data showed that governance systems do not present mechanisms to combat acts detrimental to the university management; on the environment, the results showed disagreement between the university speech and the current environmental practices; in relation to the public, it was found that there is a change in the undergraduate students profile compared to the past decade they increasingly need the student welfare services to stay at the university and graduate. And regarding the community participation and development, they recognise the universities important role for the development of regions committed especially to producing, publishing and sharing knowledge contributing directly to solve the local problems
