| dc.description.abstract2 | The use of renewable energy has been a frequent topic in terms of energy supply and provision. Despite this, some mechanisms for generating renewable energy have been little explored in schools and universities, such as the Seebeck effect. This observation prompted us to analyze the applicability of an energy source based on this effect. Using thermoelectric ceramic plates, we applied a temperature gradient between their terminals so that the temperature of the cold plate was kept constant (approximately 0 degrees Celsius) and the hot plate had a variable temperature. The observed potential difference (DDP) was always proportional to the applied temperature difference, according to the literature consulted, with a peak of approximately 1.6 volts for two thermoelectric modules associated in series and subjected to a gradient of 56 degrees Celsius between their terminals. We also observed that the number of plates in the series association increases the resulting DDP in a linear manner, that is, with each new module added, a corresponding increase in the observed DDP was observed. This fact suggests, a priori, that we can achieve a desired DDP by adjusting the number of associated plates. To develop this work, we used thermoelectric modules with an area of 16 square centimeters, which is quite practical in small installations, such as systems that use microcontrollers. Furthermore, it can be applied as a teaching tool at different educational levels, contributing to the dissemination of the thermoelectric effect and the practical learning methodology. Therefore, applications using the Seebeck effect can be useful both in the development of new technologies that seek energy efficiency and as an educational tool in the field of technological sciences. As future perspectives, there is the possibility of using solar energy as a source of heating for the thermoelectric module and, with this, we have a clean, cheap and practically inexhaustible source of energy with the potential to be converted into electricity. | |
