Abstract
The present work has as main objective to suggest an applied approach in two-dimensional computer graphics on the content of operations with matrices. For this purpose, the free software Octave is used as a tool in the learning process of this topic. Although relatively simple, it needs a more meaningful approach in high school. The work seeks to show how Octave can provide a better understanding of matrix operations through geometric interpretations in the plane, that is, how operations between matrices can control the geometric behavior of polygons and how it is used in computer graphics. In this way, it is expected to bring greater significance to the content worked, thus projecting better results in the same, as well as the possibility of introducing technology and notions of programming in the students' curriculum and in the practice of high school teachers
