Abstract
This work has as its theme factors that lead to school dropout in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) at Padre José de Anchieta State School, in Serra do Mel / RN. Its main goal is to identify the factors that lead to school dropout of EJA students in that school. More specifically, it seeks to analyze the socioeconomic aspects of EJA students at Padre José de Anchieta State School; identify the difficulties that exist in the school that students have to access it; discuss the challenges faced by the school and teachers to work with school dropout and repetition; For that reason, a theoretical approach was done based on Fávero (2009) Stephanou (2005), BRASIL (1988), Pedralli, Cerutti-Rizzatti (2013) SILVA (2015), FREIRE(1979, 1996,1999,2003, 2013,2014), Libânio (1990), listing some factors that lead EJA students to evade school, which are the external, internal and individual factors; an interview was conducted, semi-structured with teachers and school management, and the questionnaire of EJA students were applied. Before that, it was noticed that factors such as; work, tiredness, family problems, distance, children and difficulties in understanding the contents, which are internal, external, and individual factors, at the same time that they lead EJA students to evade, they also make them return to EJA. Thus, it is considered important public policies aimed at EJA. It is also emphasized the importance of the reflective look of the teacher and the school management for the reality of the EJA student, where teaching and learning methodologies and strategies are elaborated according to the reality of EJA students. It was concluded that factors external to the school, such as work, tiredness, distance and family problems, are factors that explain the school dropout of EJA students. It also shows that internal factors related to the school such as; difficulties in understanding, and learning, are also factors that lead to dropping out of school. Based on these issues, making classes more flexible, that is, adopting a methodology aimed at alternating, such as community time, can be adopted at school to reduce the dropout rates of the student who works
