| dc.description.abstract2 | The present article explores female protagonism in contemporary speculative science fiction works, addressing the pedagogical implications of gender representations in dystopian narratives. The general objective is to analyze the first book of the “The Hunger Games” saga, by Suzanne Collins (2008), highlighting its role as a non-school cultural curriculum and its role in the construction of readers/as subjectivities, based on the discussions made possible with regard to the gender relations presented in the work. Thus, we investigate how the protagonist of this story challenges traditional gender norms and positions herself as a figure of resistance, enabling the production of other modes of subjectivities beyond hegemonic ones. Supported by the field of Cultural Studies in Education, in dialogue with feminist theories and post-critical curriculum theories, the article discusses how this character can be analyzed in an educational context, in order to foster critical thinking, autonomy, and reflection on relations of power, identity, and social justice. The study highlights the potential of dystopian narratives to contribute to the education of young critical readers/as, capable of questioning and subverting social and gender structures. | |
