Abstract

The city of Mossoró/RN, has shown an accelerated growth in the last decades, which boosted the civil construction, resulting in the verticalization and construction of residential condominiums of high standard, with medium and large buildings. Until then, in local construction practice, priority was given to constructive and architectural methods of quality. In small residences, the geotechnical investigations are usually neglected and superficial foundations have been adopted, aiming to reduce the costs of the work, which may lead to the occurrence of pathological manifestations in the future. Thus, the objective of this work is to evaluate the Ultimate Limit State of the project and to verify if the absence of geotechnical investigation can cause the appearance of pathological manifestations due to problems of foundations of a residence in Mossoró/RN. The work intends, through the investigation of the soil profile and analysis of the foundations project, to evaluate the possible relation with the appearance of pathologies in the neighborhood. The analysis of the foundations project was done through mathematical modeling implemented in Excel software and simulations carried out in the Shoe module of GEO5 software. Based on the data collected in the field and in the laboratory, the geotechnical profile of the soil was obtained, and three hypotheses were adopted to evaluate the rupture criterion. After the simulations, it can be concluded that there is a considerable risk of soil rupture.
