Abstract
With the current economic scenario, companies always seek to innovate, since investments in innovation positively impact the performance and competitiveness of these companies vis-à-vis the market. One of the most used forms is through investments in Research and Development (R & D). Investments in capital expenditures (Capex) also reinforce corporate strategy, characterizing itself as a complementary investment for the company's trajectory. Therefore, the objective of this work is to analyze the database of The 2017 EU Industrial R & D Investment Scoreboard using two multiple linear regression models with a sample of 2360 firms, in order to verify the importance of the two types of investments in the sales growth and increased corporate profits. The results indicate that 71.60% of sales and 54.28% of profits are related to investments in R & D and Capex, collaborating to a very strong relationship with the success of companies.
