Abstract
The eucalyptus found in soil and climate in Brazil are ideal conditions for large scale production, and this species is easily adaptable to different climatic conditions. As the Northeast is a major consumer of firewood and charcoal, eucalyptus comes as an option for the production of these, and can reduce the exploitation of native forests. Thus, the present work aims to carry out the genetic evaluation of Eucalyptus tereticornis origins at the initial stage of development in the semi - arid region of the Northeast. At 6, 12 and 18 months, survival (Sob), height (Alt) and DAP (diameter of 1.30 m) for 16 Eucalyptus tereticornis were evaluated early. The characters were evaluated by means of genetic-statistical tests of Eucalyptus tereticornis, composed of 280 individuals, in 4 blocks with 14 plots per block and 5 plots per plot, being considered a random test of incomplete blocks. It was established in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the semi-arid city of Mossoró, with a temperature around 27 ° C. The data were analyzed using the SELEGEN-REML / BLUP program, using the static model of (model 6), and the genetic correlation analysis between the characters was performed by the SELEGEN 102 program. The provenance presented, in general, better averages for the genetic parameters studied at 18 months after the implant of the experiment were the 20472 that presented 80% survival, 4.65 m height and 4.44 cm DAP. Thus, the best adaptability is the conditions of the study region, which presents low concentrated precipitation in 3 to 4 months of the year. Therefore, it is possible to determine provenances with good adaptability to the semi-arid region and it is possible to indicate them as an alternative for the composition of commercial plantations in the region with the aim of overturning and reducing the wood consumption of the native forest. But future studies are needed to confirm the values obtained with the initial evaluation.
