The kinetic theory of gases is presented to high school students in most cases in a strictly abstract way. This problem is present in the studies of pressure, work, temperature, first law of thermodynamics, thermal machines, thermodynamic processes, and what else we relate to the study of a gas. In order to alleviate this problem, we built a didactic sequence and a didactic device that aims to model the thermal movement of an ideal monoatomic gas. We approach the use of this lowcost didactic device in Physics classes for high school students at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Nortel, in Ipanguaçu / RN. Considering Vygotsky's sociocultural theory as the theoretical-pedagogical basis, in this theory students are the protagonists and the mediating teacher. The speeches of the students during the classes and two questionnaires (PreTest and Post Test) to analyze the pedagogical intervention. The intervention showed good results in understanding the content, with emphasis on the moments when our device was used.
