Resumo

The required internship was held at the Jerome Dix-Huit Rosado Maia Veterinary Hospital of the Rural Federal University of Semi-Arid, from June 3 to August 3, 2019, with a total workload of 240 hours. Thus, we aimed to report a case of flexural deformity in a quarter-day-old quarter-mile foal. The etiology of the disease is multifactorial, ranging from intrauterine space restriction to association with genetic factors, most often affecting the flexor tendon structures (leading to hyperflexion of the limbs). Disease therapy is given according to the severity of the case, being mainly associated with clinical treatment, but surgical intervention can be performed in cases of greater severity. In the described report, it was decided to use bandage associated with the splint to perform extension of the affected limbs, and movement restriction during the 58 days of hospitalization. The patient presented a satisfactory response to the adopted therapeutic measures, demonstrating voluntary extension capacity and ambulation at the end of the fifty-eighth day of hospitalization, being referred to continue the treatment at home.
