Resumo

With the search for a healthier and longer life, people have become more and more selective in their choices, looking for changes of habits that propitiate a better quality of life. Therefore, organic agriculture has been gaining ground because it is a technique that does not use agrochemicals in its crops, making it a healthier product for consumers. This practice, in addition to preserving, does not pollute the water table with agrochemicals, avoiding soil degradation as farmers try to balance it before cultivation, which can also restore local biodiversity, thus promoting environmental sustainability and not degrading the environment, ensuring the future of the next generations. In this sense, the objective of this paper was to study the production and commercialization of organic products in two rural communities in the city of Mossoró/RN, the reasons that motivated the producers to produce the organics, the limiting factors of this practice, identifying the main products and the consumers. The study presented a qualitative and quantitative methodology with a case study that explored the rural community. Through the application of questionnaires with the producers and consumers, several factors involved in this process were analyzed. The main results showed that organic consumption has grown significantly, and that consumers have been more concerned about health and quality of life. Thus, it was understood that the advances have been significant in this area, where organic market has shown to be more fair trade, although some points still hinder production such as water scarcity, pest and disease control. The certification was one of the points pointed as a factor of difficulty in the process and sales of the products, mainly considering the costs to obtain the stamps.
