Resumo

Green areas are increasingly losing space in cities and as this creates great problem for humanity it is important that human beings have knowledge and practice for environmental preservation. So the sustainability of the planet is increasingly difficult to achieve due to man's interference in nature. The objective of this work is to carry out a survey of the plant species used in the forestation of the municipality of Pau dos Ferros. This is a qualitative analysis of the tree species of the city, through observation in the most popular places of the city: Avenida Independencia, Avenida 13 de Mayo, Getúlio Vargas Avenue, Joel Praxedes Street and the Cajá neighborhood. A total of 708 trees were collected, where 24 species were identified. The most frequent species were Azadirachta indica (85%), Ficus benjamina and Acacia podalyraefolia and presented only 12% of fruit trees. In the places visited there was the observation of poor distribution of trees, in which some points the amounts of trees are minimal. Most of the species found were medium and small, and some were arranged in inappropriate places, for example, some of the species Fícus benjamina. Therefore, the implementation of a master plan for ade-quate tree-planting is essential so that trees can survive, provide what is necessary for man and to keep the planet sustainable.
