dc.description.abstract2Honeybees (Apis mellifera) play a fundamental role in the pollination of various agricultural crops and native species, being considered key organisms for maintaining biodiversity and food security. These bees stand out for their wide adaptation to different environmental conditions, including regions with adverse climates, such as the semi-arid region. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the environment on the morphometry of Africanized bee wings in the Brazilian semi-arid region, comparing specimens collected during the dry and rainy seasons. Ten colonies were selected, and ten worker bees were collected from each colony during three different periods (March, July, and December). Right and left forewings were fixed on slides and photographed. From the images, a TPS file was created and 19 landmarks were marked. The Canonical Variable Analysis (CVA) demonstrated that the total variation in the shape of the bee wings can be entirely explained by the first two axes, with the first canonical variable accounting for 70% of the variation and the second for 30%. There is greater variation among individuals collected in December compared to those collected in March and July; however, there is a significant difference between individuals collected in March and July. Cross- validation showed that the difference between collection 1 and collection 2 is 59%, while the difference between collection 1 and collection 3 is 74.7%, and the difference between collection 2 and collection 3 is 72.4%. Wing shape (WS) was observed among the individuals analyzed within the same period (collections) and in all periods, both for shape and centroid size. However, no significant difference was observed between the level of WS and the populations, indicating the same level of stress between periods. PLS showed that relative air humidity was the environmental factor responsible for 94.9% (P<0.01) of the interference in wing shape, having a more significant effect on bees from collection 1. This study concluded that the bee population studied during the different periods changed the shape and size of their wings due to the influence of environmental conditions. It was also observed that stress occurred during all periods.
