Abstract
Globally, nearly 1.25 million people die annually from traffic accidents. The present study aims to identify the causes of traffic accidents in a public road and to present proposals that reconcile with the safety of pedestrians and users of the road. For this, a literature review was carried out on theories of transportation engineering that justify this work, as well as a research with the objective of identifying data on the flow of pedestrians and vehicles at the intersection, such as vehicle speed and geometric configuration of the street. The data obtained were analyzed with the aid of do Microsoft Excel® to study vehicle and pedestrian behavior. Thus, the efficiency of speed radars and speed bumps in the reduction of velocity in monitored places at Avenida Presidente Dutra was observed. In addition, the influence of the geometric configuration of the street was verified in relation to the average high vehicle speeds. A proposal was presented to reduce the speed of vehicles in a more secure and orderly way on the road, and the results obtained were confronted with the current reality. Given the viability and efficiency of the solution presented, this work will present it to the local authorities in order to minimize the risks to the life of the users in the road under study.
