| dc.description.abstract2 | Deepwater oil production represents a major challenge, driving the improvement of offshore systems. In this application, depths of over seven thousand meters are reached, requiring the use of materials with special mechanical and metallurgical properties. This is due to the extreme conditions, such as high temperatures and pressures, in addition to the susceptibility to corrosion and the action of hydrogen. In addition, failures in these structures have caused oil spills, generating environmental impacts, harm to human health and even loss of life. This work is part of research that considers the mechanical and thermal processing of materials used in welded components of the offshore system. Considering that these components require the use of post-weld heat treatments, this work deals with the application of ASTM A182 F22 (F22) and ASTM A36 (A36) alloy steels as supplied, that is, the steels were applied in the forged and rolled states, respectively. This study considered the impact toughness and hardness behavior of alloy steels, F22 cut in the longitudinal and transverse directions of the billet, and A36 cut only in the longitudinal direction (direction used in applications of welded components in the offshore system), for the condition with cathodic protection. Both materials underwent a Stress Relief Heat Treatment (PWHT). For F22, the temperatures were 650 °C and 677 °C, and for A36, 650 °C and 704 °C were used, lasting 6 hours and cooling in air. The toughness was evaluated by means of the Charpy impact test and the hardness by the Rockwell test. The test specimens were subjected to cathodic protection for 336 hours. The cathodic protection system proved to be efficient, preventing the oxidation of the impact test specimens and did not promote significant changes in the impact toughness of the tested steels. This conclusion was based on the comparison of the toughness values with those found in the literature for the condition without cathodic protection and under the same experimental conditions. The energy absorbed during the impact was higher in the F22 steel specimens extracted longitudinally, registering 144.66 ± 17.47 J at a temperature of 650ºC and 161.33 ± 18.47 J at a temperature of 677ºC. Followed by the A36 steel, which presented 80 ± 13.85 J at a temperature of 650ºC and, at a temperature of 704ºC, obtained a value of 68.667 ± 10.26 J. Finally, the lowest toughness was observed for the F22 steel extracted transversely, whose values were 28.66 ± 5.03 J at a temperature of 650ºC and 37 ± 12.12 J at a temperature of 677ºC. Thus, F22 in the longitudinal orientation presented better toughness behavior. Furthermore, when analyzing the standard deviation values, PWHT did not influence the toughness of both steels. The increase in PWHT temperature also did not influence the hardness response of the material. | |
